Gadag Granny Kills 9-month Kid Allegedly Feeding him Betel Nuts and Leaves
In Gadag, a tragic incident has led to the registration of a case against a grandmother, Saroja, for allegedly causing the death of her nine-month-old grandson. The Gajendragad police initiated the case, based on the allegation that the child choked to death after being fed betel nuts and leaves by Saroja.
The unfortunate incident occurred on November 22, with the child being buried on the same day. However, suspicions arose when the mother, Nagratna, expressed concerns about her mother-in-law’s role in the child’s death. Allegations were made that Saroja had fed the baby betel nuts and leaves.
Responding to the mother’s claims, Nagratna approached the Gajendragad police, prompting an investigation. On November 24, in the presence of the Assistant Commissioner, the police exhumed the baby’s body and sent it to the forensic science department to determine the cause of death.
The Gajendragad police have taken Saroja into custody as part of their ongoing inquiry. They emphasized that a conclusive statement on the baby’s death and the authenticity of the allegations is challenging until the forensic science report is available. Once the report is received, appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. The police clarified that, at this stage, it is difficult to make definitive statements about the baby’s demise, and they await the forensic report for further insights.
